From Business Development Manager to Franchisee (Musical Minis)

Children’s franchise Musical Minis, has taken on a new franchisee in the South East Essex area.

Natalie Duncan, who was until recently a senior business development manager for First Data, has become the latest to join the successful franchise, which was established in 1989 by children’s psychologist, Karen Sherr.

The development of her own daughter Daisy (1yr) is what inspired Natalie to take up a new career working with children. Natalie bought the South East Essex franchise when the previous owner retired and is planning to build on the success of a business that has delivered Musical Minis classes to over 2,000 children since it arrived in the area in 2001.

Karen Sherr, founder of Musical Minis said, “the interactive Musical Minis programme, which uses a variety of songs, music, instruments and puppets, is structured to help babies, toddlers and children improve their co-ordination, enhance their listening skills and develop their social and communication skills”.

However, Karen firmly believes that the development of skills is not the only reason children should attend, “fun, fun and more fun is what Musical Minis is all about! The sessions are structured in such a way that it encourages children to discover sounds, explore instruments, mimic actions and learn to share and make friends in a relaxed group setting”.

New start

Commenting on her new business, Natalie is confident when she says, “I have already received a number of enquiries from people wanting to come to classes which I’m really excited about. It’s been great to talk to parents who have obviously recognised that the classes are not only fun but also hugely beneficial to their child’s development and I can’t wait meet them all at classes soon”.

She continues, “research has shown us that children and babies respond naturally to music and our sessions are designed in such a way as to encourage early communication, in turn promoting confident, sociable and creative children but all that aside, we just want them to have fun!”.

Big plans

Natalie will be re-launching the business in June 2016 with classes in Canvey Island, Brentwood, Billericay, Corringham and Eastwood and has plans to offer more classes throughout the region over the coming months. Alongside regular classes Natalie will be offering birthday party packages as well as regular or one-off sessions in nurseries and pre-schools. In addition she is interested in carrying out contract work at Children Centres and Nurseries.
