The franchise interview

How to prepare for the franchise interview

Interviews can be daunting and the franchise interview is no exception

This is where the franchisor finds out more about you and whether you are the right person for them. To make sure that you maximise your chances of success, we have outlined some of the key areas that you should be aware of at the interview stage.

Look the part

Just like with any interview, it is important to make a good first impression. Start by dressing smartly and in a way that demonstrates you as the face of their business. After all, this is what you will be if you are successful!

Always speak formally and present yourself in the most professional manner possible. Show your enthusiasm and be positive!

Know the system

A fundamental aspect of franchising is that a successful system has been implemented and amended to ensure maximum effectiveness. You need to demonstrate you understand the franchisor’s system and that you are willing to follow it.

In the interview, show that you know how the system works by confidently answering the questions put to you. You should also research the franchise’s statistics and how the system has generated these.

Again, questions about your skills come up in every interview. With the franchise interview, you should show that you have all the necessary skills the franchisor is looking for and more. This is where you should show the franchisor that you will be a true asset to their business and that you can deliver great results.

Knowledge is power!

Before you attend your interview, take the time to learn about the industry. Examine the threats, strengths and weaknesses, and how you will cope with these. You can even ask questions yourself about anything you have found; this will show that you are engaged and willing to adapt to change.

Examine some of the promotional campaigns the franchisor has carried out. How successful were the campaigns? What in particular stood out for you?

Know your patch

Finally, have a look at your area (or territory). This could be your own local area so use your local knowledge to show how you can benefit the community. Here is where you can show how important you will be to the territory, and you can do this by providing information about community groups or initiatives you are involved in, what your branch can bring to the area in terms of jobs and any other details you are aware of.

You may also be asked about how you are funding your franchise here, so make sure you know all the details.

Though franchise interviews can be nerve-racking, staying relaxed and assured of your facts will stand you in good stead. Above all, make sure you present yourself in the best way possible and take pride in what you have achieved in the past.
