Put the kettle on…
In the UK, we love a good cup of coffee.
According to the Financial Times, around 1.7bn cups of coffee are sold each year, with some 18,000 outlets. This figure is set to continue increasing over the next few years, with pubs and fast food vendors now getting in on the act. As a result, by the end of 2015, coffee had contributed around £7.9bn to the UK market.
With this in mind, coffee franchises have appeared everywhere, with some of the biggest names in the industry appearing in shops and motorway service stations. Take Costa Coffee as one example; there are so many stores in the UK that have a Costa café prominently placed on their shop floor. There are, of course, other franchises out there.
1. Really Awesome Coffee
The franchise was established in 2010 and now has around twelve franchises around the UK.
Another mobile coffee franchise, Cafe2U, has been trading since 2004 and aims to bring hot food and drinks nit just to businesses but to events and functions. Cafe2U provides its franchisees with a converted van and full training on how to operate the equipment.
Cafe2U has franchisees the world over, with sixty currently in the UK.
3. 200 Degrees Coffee
Like the above franchises, 200 Degrees Coffee aims to work with the franchisee to grow their business with full training and will also assist with the installation of the coffee machines
What do you need?
Could a coffee franchise be your next move? As well as the tools, coffee franchisees also have to possess some specific skills in order to succeed in such a competitive market. Many franchises, like the ones mentioned above, will be able to teach you how to operate the machinery and equipment but these are just some of the skills required.
Franchisees will need to have determination, drive, and some management skills in order to maximise their business prospects. Given the shortened set-up period that is common with most franchises, there is also a need for franchisees to be quick learners and self-motivated. Inevitably, given that franchisees will most likely be selling a product, sales and people skills are also highly valued.
Is it worth it?
There are many benefits of becoming a coffee franchisee. Many of us dream of being our own boss with flexible working hours that work best for our families and social life, and joining a coffee franchise can be a great to achieve this. With the coffee industry appearing to be performing well in the UK, there is also the possibility for a good income.
Take-away coffee is also highly popular as has been shown by the number of coffee outlets in the UK. This is good for you as a franchisee, as you will be able to keep a constant client base once you’re up and running.
Does the future look bright?
Coffee is already bringing billions of pounds into the UK economy and this figure is forecasted to reach over £15bn by 2020. Consequently, the number of coffee outlets is also expected to grow in the years to come, eventually reaching 30,000 by 2025.
For the last 17 years, the coffee industry has grown steadily and research suggests that this trend will continue.
